Time for anoter LONG ride. We are finally going to attempt the ride we've been talking about for years - North, to Deadhorse, Alaska. To add to the adventure we are attempting to qualify for entry into the Iron Butt Association by completing their Border to Border ride. We will start in Mexico and must make it into Canada (about 1400 miles) in fewer than 36 hours. Doing it in fewer than 24 hours makes it an Extreme ride.
So, the first challenge will be getting into Canada in 36 hours or less. After that things will progress at a slower pace as we head for Fairbanks, Alaska. Once there, if the weaher cooperates, we'll head up the Haul Road to Deadhorse. That's the same place the Ice Road Truckers go in the winter. It's mostly a dirt & gravel road that will be quite a test - especially on Harleys.
This trip, I'll be transmitting our position every 10 minutes via satelite . The Spot Connect is the device that makes this possible. It also has the ability to send an S.O.S. message if we get into trouble out there. Click on the map to see where we are right now.
